Sport Vereniging Transvaal is a Surinamese football association club, which was founded on January 15, 1921. The initiative to set up a football club was taken by boys from the Hendrikschool: Walter and Duncan Elliot, Sno, Frits Tjon A Young Leckie and others. The idea took shape when they came together to play football at Brutus club. Transvaal joined the Surinamese Football Association, SVB, and then took part in the competition in the 2nd class. In the same year the first championship was won and Transvaal promoted to the first class. The championship of the first class was instantly achieved. Richenel Schoonhoven teacher at the Hendrikschool has made a historic decision by taking Uncle Wim Bos Verschuur, the first president of the association, to Transvaal. In 1952 SV Transvaal won the first championship in the premier league. The race for the championship was the unbeatable honorable “Bear” M.V.V. won 1 – 8. After a downturn SV Transvaal broke really start 1958 with players like Jules Lagadeau, Monsanto, Ivan Frankel, ArmandSahadewsingh, Emile Barron, John Enser, Eric Oehlers, Edwin Schal, Jackie Boschman. Later came there, Brammerloo, Conraad Roy Vanenburg, Eugene Sordam and others. It was the most talented and successful group SV Transvaal had. Absolute highlight was reaching the CONCACAF championships in 1970, 1973 and 1981. This success has so far unmatched by any other Surinamese football.
To date there are 21 championships won. SV Transvaal won the Suriname Cup three times. The Suriname President’s Cup two times. Tranvaal was appointed by the IFFHS as one of the top ten football clubs in CONCACAF 20th century and is on the fifth position.
Anno 2017 SV Transvaal comes out in the SVB Top class competition. They play their home games in Paramaribo in the André Kamperveen Stadium on Letitia Vriesde Avenue. The stadium has a capacity of 7100 people.
